90s build date, 80s design, 70s BL quality, love the XJ40. I recall a friend of the family had one identical to this when it was nearly new. They kept it for maybe 5 years and lost their shirt on it, resale was catastrophic. I recall rear seat room was amusingly tight for a not-tiny car. Quite pretty in its own way anyway.

They never fixed the rear seat room, either. I had an X308, which is 2 generations after this one. It was basically a big 2+2.

Really a ‘70s design, too. Most of the development work was basically finalized by 1979, i t just took until 1986 to actually go into production.
